“Climate Scientist Dr Elsie is at breaking point. For forty years her charting of the accelerating crisis has gone unheeded and once again she stands, Cassandra-like, in an intergovernmental coffee break, choking on complacency. She must do something. Anything. Then a chance encounter on the A44 with a hot-air balloon enthusiast sends her sailing high into the sky. She’s a desperado on the thermals -

9000 miles away in Fukushima, a lost child nurses a broken bird. On the horizon she spies a beautiful, red balloon. She reaches out her small hand.”

This is a description of Drawn to Stars (aka Aimee Corbett and Vanessa Hammick’s) performance, Science in the Sky. It is a voyage high above a planet at tipping point. It has been created in collaboration with The Climate Change Consortium of Wales. It is a startling, poetic and urgent piece, a moving plea for our planet and the future of the billions who call it home.
