Join us for an unforgettable evening of music, storytelling and merriment.
Travel with us to the land of Georgia, on the eastern side of the Black Sea. Listen to the wonderful harmonies of ancient polyphonic work songs, lullabies, healing songs, church and city songs, from all corners of the country. Learn about the folklores which accompany these songs and are woven into the fabric of Georgian life to this day. Hear stories of the amazing people we have encountered on our way, and discover how these enchanting songs have travelled to the rest of the world, and ultimately came to be heard in Wales.
Tickets: Adults £12, U16s £6, Family ticket £30
The company will also be running a free ‘Have-a-go singing’ workshop before the show, at 4pm!
Get the chance to learn a selection of traditional three-part folk songs, taught by these leading singers of Georgian song. UNESCO has recognised Georgian polyphony as an ‘Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity’. You will learn about the characteristics of these tunes, feel the vibrations of the harmonies in your own body, and connect with others through song. Don’t blame us if you get hooked! Please note: no previous musical knowledge needed, just an open heart and mind! This workshop is free but donations on the day are welcomed.
Please email info@shakespearelink.org.uk if you would like to attend, so that we can get an idea of numbers.
