Shakespeare schools’ Week

Our Annual Shakespeare workshop for local schools

Originally conceived with and still supported by Mid Wales Music Trust, one of the highlights of the year here at the Willow Globe is a week long visit by around sixty local Key Stage 2 children from one or more local schools. It is a site-specific cross arts project comprising a week of music, theatre and design workshops, culminating in a retelling of one of Shakespeare’s plays for friends and family. This immersive week gives the children a chance to learn and work together outside of the classroom through artistic creativity and play, builds self confidence, develops social skills and provides inspiration and a lasting enthusiasm for the arts.

“At the Willow Globe the teachers were great and really fun. There were swallows in the toilets and I saw bats in the barn. I made new friends. I loved meeting up with the other schools, it was awesome. I particularly loved all the crafts, making our own props was really good. The Willow Globe is an actual theatre made from willow trees. I like Shakespeare now and our version of Twelfth Night was very funny.”

“To have a full week at the Willow Globe is a wonderful way for the children to access expressive arts… For many children who are not academically confident this gives them an opportunity to shine…. We need more of this”
